Upon entering the recital hall, the impact of the organ is striking. The design
and aesthetically pleasing symmetry of the case, the placement
of the façade pipes, the horizontal trumpets, the color and engraving
of the wood blending with the existing wood of the room- all contribute
to a harmonious ensemble of beauty the eyes.
Inside the case, all the internal workings
of the organ are vital to a successful sound. I was able to personally
inspect pipes, wind chests, wind trunks, trackers, roller boards,
stop action, leather, springs, wiring, joints –all are first-rate
and the craftsmanship is of the highest quality. The console
is another stunning work of precision and beauty. Many technologically
advanced aids have been incorporated into the console design.
The sound of the instrument, however, is the
final product – one which unites a master builder with a master
performer to give life to musical masterpieces. I can attest
to the rich, full-bodied, totally exciting sound of the finished
voicing. The organ is a true treasure – one which should make
the entire University of Denver community extremely proud.
